Rookie setter earns honor for second time this season
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College setter Ashley Sarmiento has been named the South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week announced league officials Monday. This marks the second time this year Sarmiento has earned this honor.
Sarmiento, a freshman from Dayton, Ohio averaged 9.9 assists per set in leading Tusculum to a 3-0 record last week. The Centerville High School graduate also posted 3.70 digs, 0.50 service aces and 0.20 blocks per set.
Tusculum improved to 14-3 on the season and 10-1 in the South Atlantic Conference with the victories. TC, who is riding a seven-match winning streak, recorded victories over Limestone (3-0), Brevard (3-0) and Lenoir-Rhyne last week.
In Tusculum's 3-0 wins over Limestone and Brevard, Sarmiento posted 25 and 27 assists, respectively. She followed those performances with a 47-assist effort against Lenoir-Rhyne.
On the week, Sarmiento hit a solid .320, including .667 against Brevard (4-0-6) and .333 (4-0-12) versus Lenoir-Rhyne.
Tusculum closes out its five-match home-stand with a pair of contests this week, beginning with Tuesday’s SAC clash against cross-mountain rival Mars Hill at 7 p.m. from Pioneer Arena.
