Tusculum tied for 14th place after day one of Rendlemen Invitational

Nick York shoots 75 and is tied for 28th place

SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum men’s golf team carded an opening round score of 309 and is tied for 14th place after day one action of the 2013 Richard Rendlemen Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by Catawba College and his being held at the 6,665-yard, par 71 Country Club of Salisbury.

Senior Nick York posted the best round of the day for the Pioneers with his four-over par 75 and is tied for 28th place. Freshman Nick Forsberg is tied for 36th place following Monday’s 76. Junior Dakota Norton is 57th with his 78, while sophomore Coleman Glick is in 71st place with 80. Sophomore Warren Cheney rounds out the team scoring with his 81 (T74th). Senior Derek Cantrell carded a 76 and is tied for 36th, playing as an individual competitor.

USC Aiken leads the team competition with 289, three shots ahead of second place Anderson (292). Belmont Abbey and UNC Pembroke are tied for third place with 296, while North Greenville and Lenoir-Rhyne each posted 297 and are tied for fifth. Lincoln Memorial and Erskine are tied for seventh place with 300, while Wingate, Carson-Newman and Catawba are in a three-way tie for ninth place with 302. King is 12th with 303, followed by Bluefield State (307), Tusculum, Queens University of Charlotte (309), Limestone (311) and Pfeiffer (315).

USC Aiken’s J.P. Solis shot a four-under par 67 and leads the tournament field by two shots over second place Michael Mullmann of UNC Pembroke.

The final round will be played on Tuesday morning.
