Pioneers jump to eighth in NCBWA Region Poll

PEMBROKE, N.C. --- The Tusculum baseball team moved up two spots and is ranked eighth in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll.

The Pioneers (16-8, 9-3 South Atlantic Conference) received 40 total points after last weekend's three-game league sweep over Brevard.  Tusculum amassed 48 runs and 47 hits against the Tornados, while also allowing just five earned runs on the weekend.

Mount Olive is the new No. 1 team in the region as the Trojans received 133 points, including eight first place votes.  North Georgia is second with 132 points and six first place nods.  Catawba is third, up two spots from last week, while USC Aiken dropped three spots to No. 4 after being swept by Columbus State.  CSU jumps back into the poll after the sweep over the Pacers, while Flagler climbed one spot to sixth.  Erskine is seventh, followed by Tusculum in eighth, North Greenville is ninth, with Francis Marion and Belmont Abbey tied for 10th.

The Pioneers are currently in sole possession of second place in the league standings and one-game behind front-runner Catawba (19-7, 10-2 SAC).

Tusculum is riding a season-long seven-game winning streak.  The Pioneers return to action on Friday as they begin a three-game SAC series at Anderson.
