GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Kyle Engelbert has signed to play golf and attend Tusculum University announced TU head coach Ross Cash.
Engelbert, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, will join the Pioneers this academic year. He played his prep career at Paschal High School where he boasts a USGA Handicap Index of +1.9.
In his last nine tournaments he has finished in the top-15 in every event including two medalist wins. He won the NTPGA All-American Tour Winter Classic with 74-70=144. He finished runner-up at the Burleson Invitational with 69-71=140 before winning the NTPGA All-American Tour at Firewheel with 70-68=138.
In his last event, he posted a 15th place showing in a US Amateur qualifier with 71-76=147 this past July.
"Kyle is my first signee at Tusculum and he will make an immediate impact as soon as he steps foot on campus," said Cash. "He is an elite player, but more importantly he and his family are the exact type of high character people I will surround myself with as we strive for unwavering excellence in the golf programs. He served as team captain for his Paschal High School squad and was an Academic All-State first team selection.
He was a member of the First Tee of Forth Worth program and was selected to play at Pebble Beach Golf Course in the Pure Insurance Championship in 2017. While at Pebble Beach, Engelbert was partnered with World Golf Hall of Famer Tom Kite, playing on the course where Kite won the 1992 U.S. Open. Engelbert's round with Kite was filmed and aired on The Golf Channel.
Off the golf course, Engelbert was a member of the National Honors Society and the Paschal Future Business Leaders of America.
Tusculum will open its season next month as the Pioneers host the 13th annual Bob Dibble Classic.
