ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum University men's lacrosse team has been picked to finish sixth in the annual South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches poll, the league office announced Thursday.
The Pioneers received 35 points in the balloting from the conference's nine head coaches, after finishing in seventh place a year ago with a 2-6 league record and a 4-9 overall mark.
Head coach Richard Carrington starts his sixth season looking to replace five of the top seven scorers from last season who were lost to graduation.
Defending SAC regular-season champion Lenoir-Rhyne, which advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals, took seven first-place votes and earned the top spot in the survey with 71 points. Wingate, which upset the Bears in the SAC finals, picked up the other two first-place votes and is ranked second with 66 points.
Queens (56 points), Lincoln Memorial (52) and Catawba (40) round out the top five in the poll, followed by Tusculum, Coker (32 points), Mars Hill (28) and Newberry (16).
The Pioneers will make their 2019 season debut on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m. against Limestone at Pioneer Field.
