ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College senior Jonas Winkelmann has been selected the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in men's tennis for the week ending Feb. 28, the conference office announced Monday.
Winkelmann went 3-0 in both singles and doubles as the
49th-ranked Pioneers improved their record to 7-0 with wins over
North Greenville (7-2), Lenoir-Rhyne (7-2) and Milligan (9-0). It
is the third time in his career that Winkelmann has earned
conference Player of the Week honors.
Winkelmann won all three of his singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne's Shane O'Dea in the Pioneers' conference opener on Saturday afternoon. He also teamed with Tim Stierle for three victories at number-one doubles, giving Winkelmann 28 consecutive doubles victories and 41 of his last 42 doubles contests dating to the 2013-14 season.
The Boblingen, Germany native and three-time All-Conference selection is 52-16 in his career in singles play and 60-8 in doubles action.
The Pioneers (7-0, 1-0 SAC) will be on the road Tuesday afternoon at Carson-Newman, with match time scheduled for 2 p.m.
