ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum junior Tomas Kmetko has been honored as the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in men's tennis for the week of March 13-19, the conference office announced Monday.
Kmetko picked up wins in singles and doubles as the Pioneers defeated Catawba 5-3 on the road Friday afternoon in their only match of the week. The Bratislava, Slovakia native teamed with Toby de Klerk for an 8-6 victory at flight one doubles, then won 6-4, 7-5 in his flight one singles match to help the Pioneers to their fourth win in five conference matches this season.
Kmetko is 6-1 in singles for the Pioneers, including 3-0 in conference action, with his only loss coming to a top-10 nationally ranked player. In doubles, Kmetko has a 6-4 record with de Klerk, with three wins in four conference contests, and two losses to nationally-ranked opponents.
The Pioneers (9-4, 4-1 SAC) are home at the Nichols Tennis Complex Wednesday afternoon to play Carson-Newman in a SAC matchup beginning at 2 p.m.
