Stoner shines in Doubleheader sweep of Lees-McRae
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Robin Stoner had four doubles and drove in five runs, including the game one winner, in the Tusculum College softball team's doubleheader sweep of Lees-McRae College on Thursday afternoon. TC won the first contest 2-1 in extra innings before rallying to win the second game 6-2.

Tusculum evened its overall record to 18-18 while LMC falls to 5-31. The Pioneers will be back in action for the final two games of the season at Red Edmonds Field on Saturday against Coker College beginning at 2 p.m. Between the two games TC will honor its five seniors before playing in their final home contest.

Game 1: Tusculum 2, Lees-McRae 1 (8) (Box Score)

Stoner hit a walkoff sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to give Tusculum a narrow 2-1 victory over Lees-McRae in the first game of the doubleheader.

Stoner scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch off Bobcat starter Charlie Dutton (2-13). She led off the inning with a double before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brooke Rhodes. LMC opened the sixth inning with back-to-back singles, and Alix Green came around to tie the game at 1-1 on a Pioneer throwing error.

Each team had their chances to push across the go-ahead run, but the game went into the extra eighth inning. In the Bobcat half of the frame, Pioneer starter Rachel Medley (7-9) sat the Bobcats down in order, leaving the runner stranded at second base.

Kaytlin Stroinski began the bottom of the eighth at second base as a result of the international tie-break rule. Treslyn Reese led off and she pushed a bunt down the third base line. Dutton tried to get Stroinski out at third, but she was safe on a close play.

In the next at bat, Stoner came up and hit an 0-1 pitch to deep right field. Green made the catch and fired to home plate, but the speedy Stroinski was easily safe as TC walked off with the win.

Medley gave up just five hits, all singles, and two walks while recording four strikeouts. Dutton took the loss despite surrendering just two hits but handed out five walks.

The Bobcats took advantage of two pioneer fielding blunders and scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. They took the 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but TC loaded the bases on singles by Kruel and Williamson and a walk by Rhodes.

Stroinski was hit by a pitch in the next at bat that brought home the Pioneers' first run of the game. Stoner then promptly cleared the bases on her double left center that gave TC a 4-2 lead.
