AUSTIN, Texas --- Three Tusculum University student-athletes have been named to the 2018 Google Cloud NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Academic All-District 3 first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Tusculum's Katja Andersson, Emma MacDonald and Nicole McMillen all advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with the winners being announced in December. The Academic All-District 3 team is selected from nominees representing all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.
Andersson, a senior midfielder from Enstaberga, Sweden, returns to the Academic All-District team for a second straight year. She boasts a 3.99 cumulative grade point average with a double major in business management and international economics. She appeared in 14 matches with two starts where she posted one goal with two assists for her four total points.
Andersson has completed her TU playing career which encompassed 69 matches (33 starts) with nine goals, eight assists and 26 total points. She is a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference selection (2015, 2016) including 2015 where she earned a spot on the All-Southeast Region third team. She is also a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, President's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.
MacDonald, a senior defender from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, earns her inaugural Academic All-District nod. She has a 3.98 GPA while majoring in psychology and is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, President's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. She appeared in 14 matches with 11 starts in 2018 where she scored three goals. Her 51-match career includes 24 starts with six goals and 12 total points.
McMillen, a senior defender from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, has a 3.93 GPA majoring in business management. She garners Google Cloud Academic All-District honors for a second time, but first as a women's soccer student-athlete. She earned a spot on the Academic All-District first team for track & field last spring.
On the soccer pitch, she started in all 18 matches where she accounted for one goal and a team-high eight assists, which are the second-most in the league and 41st in the nation. In her collegiate career, McMillen has started in 68 matches with a goal and 12 assists for her 14 total points.
Last Saturday, she ran as a member of the Tusculum cross country team and finished fifth in her first and only SAC Cross Country Championship meet with a 6K time of 22:26.2 to earn a spot on the All-SAC first team.
The TU women's soccer team posted an 8-7-3 overall record and advanced to the SAC quarterfinals as the No. 6 seed. Tusculum posted its eighth straight winning season and 20th straight year at .500 or better.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
