NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Logan Hayward recorded 15 kills and 16 digs to lead Newberry to a three-set victory over visiting Tusculum Friday night at Eleazer Arena in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action.

The Wolves (8-12, 4-10 SAC) won the match by scores of 27-25, 25-19, 25-13 to avenge last month's 3-1 loss to the Pioneers (9-11, 6-8 SAC) in Greeneville.

Howard hit .419 on the night as she made 15 kills on two errors and 31 total attempts. Newberry posted a .192 hitting percentage as a team with 41 kills, 18 errors and 120 attempts, while TC was limited to hit .049 (31-25-123) on the night.

Sabrina Schleuger led the Pioneers with nine kills, while Sarah Bouley accounted for eight kills, 10 digs and two blocks. Setter Hannah Berling dished out a match-high 25 assists, while Melissa Mazur finished with 28 digs in the loss.

The Newberry setter duo of Rachel Moran and Maggie Marsh made 21 and 13 assists, respectively, while Kensley Jordan led the Wolves defensively with 19 digs.

Tusculum took an early 9-5 lead in the opening frame following a Newberry attack error. The Wolves answered with an 11-4 run to lead 16-13. Trailing 21-18, Tusculum responded with a 7-1 spurt to move ahead 24-22, but Newberry fought off three set-point and closed out the frame with a 5-1 run to win 27-25.

TC led early again in the second set as the Pioneers opened up an 8-4 advantage sparked by kills from Rachel Garnett and Sarah Bouley. The Wolves answered with a 7-1 run and took its first lead of the second frame on a Jordan service ace. TC tied the set at 13-13 thanks to a Schleuger ace, but Newberry answered with an 8-3 run to extend its lead to 21-16, before winning the frame by the score of 25-19.

Newberry sealed the match utilizing a 14-4 run in the third set to post a 25-13 win in the final stanza. Tusculum had a dozen hitting errors in the final set, while the Wolves recorded five blocks in the third frame alone.

Tusculum returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Anderson for a 2 p.m. match at the Abney Athletic Center on the Anderson, South Carolina campus.
