LEBANON, Ill. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to McKendree on Saturday night, despite the efforts of Matteo Miselli.
The Bearcats (6-4) won by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-10 to sweep the Pioneers (2-7).
McKendree was led by six kills from both Zach Schnittker and Ethan Carroll. The latter needed just eight swings, alongside no errors, to hit for a .750 percentage. Ryan Serrano dished out 19 assists, while he and Schnittker added a team-high three service aces. Schnittker also led the team with six digs, followed by Francisco Comas (5) and Carroll (4). Wyatt Dimke is credited for six total blocks (two solo, four assists) and Schnittker had three block assists.
Miselli recorded a match-high nine kills to head up the Pioneer attack. Mackenzie Scott (3), Shaphar Grant (2), and Shaun Kampshoff (2) were the only other players for Tusculum to have multiple kills. Lucas Blanco and Peter Stewart split the setting duties with 10 and seven assists, respectively. Miselli tied his career-high four aces and was the only Pioneer to score one in the match. Libero Jaret Knight dug up three attacks, just ahead of Tom Kait (2) and Miselli (2). Ivan Sosa is credited with only solo block for Tusculum, while Arthur Amorim and Kampshoff teamed up for the remaining defense.
McKendree finished the match with a .409 hitting percentage with 25 kills and seven errors in 44 total attempts. TU tallied 19 kills, 17 errors, and 64 attacks for a .031 hitting percentage. The Bearcats led the Pioneers in assists (23-18), aces (10-4), digs (24-11), and total blocks (8-2).
Tusculum returns to the court on Saturday in Charleston W. Va. for a tri-match featuring George Mason and the hosting Golden Eagles.
