Tusculum finishes fifth, Tomassoni ninth at NCAA Region Preview

MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- Tusculum junior Katie Tomassoni finished ninth with a 54-hole score of 233 at the 2017 Christian Brothers / NCAA Super Region Preview at the historic Germantown Country Club.  The Pioneers posted a final round 320 to shoot 961 and finish fifth in the team competition.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament was hosted by Christian Brothers and served as a preview for the site of the 2018 NCAA Division II Women's Super Regional, which will be conducted on the par-72, 5,898-yard layout this May.

Tomassoni recorded her fourth top-10 finish of the fall as she carded rounds of 78-77-78=233.

Nova Southeastern, the No. 2 ranked team in NCAA Division II, led wire-to-wire as the Sharks shot 905, including Tuesday's final round 300 to win by 36 shots of runner-up and fourth-ranked Missouri-St. Louis (941).  Carson-Newman finished third with 950, while West Florida carded the second lowest round of the day with 310 to post 955 and finish fourth.  Tusculum was fifth with 961, followed by West Alabama (974), Union, Tenn. (999) and Christian Brothers (1051).

West Florida's Paloma Vaccaro also led wire-to-wire for individual medalist honors as she shot 72-73-71 for an even-par total of 216, eight shots clear of Michelle Ruiz of Nova Southeastern (77-74-73=224).

Tusculum senior Ciara Rattana finished 13th with 79-76-82=237, while junior Taylor White placed 26th with 81-80-84=245. 

TC junior Cydney Murrell posted the best round of the day for the Pioneers with her 76, which including four birdies, seven pars, six bogeys and a double.  She posted a string of three straight bogeys, followed by two pars and three consecutive birdies on holes 7-9.  Murrell finished 27th with 87-83-76=246.  Tusculum rookie Mackenzie Butler rounded out the team scoring with 92-86-85=263 to place 34th.

The Pioneers wrap up the fall portion of their schedule and return to action Feb. 3-4 for the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.
