Tomassoni, Pioneers in second after day one of Buccaneer Spring Classic

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. --- Tusculum senior Katie Tomassoni carded an opening round 74 and is tied for second place after day one of the 2019 Buccaneer Spring Classic.  The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by Christian Brothers University at the par-72, 6,397-yard North Creek Golf Course.

The Pioneers posted a team score of 316 and is three strokes out of the lead held by first round leader Union University (Tenn.) who tallied a 313.

Union's Alyssa Burnett was the lone player to shoot in red numbers as she posted a one-under par 71 and leads by three shots over the trio of Tomassoni, Emily Van Rie (Quincy) and Brooke Irion (Murray State CC).

Tusculum freshman Olivia Cunningham is tied for sixth place after Monday's 76.  Teammate Julia Johansson is tied for 10th after her 79, while Mackenzie Butler is 25th with 87.  TU's Meredith Barton is 42nd following a 107.

In the team competition, host Christian Brothers is third with 320, followed by Murray State CC (321), Freed-Hardeman (322), Arkansas-Monticello (334), Quincy (347), Purdue-Northwest (384) and Kentucky Wesleyan (404).

The final round of the event will be played on Tuesday at North Creek.
