LOVELAND, Ohio --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the EKU/MSU Opening Weekend Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 21).
Tusculum (1-2) takes on Lynchburg in a doubleheader for its home opener on March 4, starting at 2 p.m.
Match 1: Austin Peay 3, Tusculum 2
The Govs had to work for their victory over the Pioneers, narrowly winning in three flights.
TU's points came via the final two positions.
At No. 4, Jordyn Anderson and Sofia Vega Barrantes eked out a 13-21, 21-12, 15-13 reverse sweep.
At the 5's, Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty were victorious by scores of 22-20, 21-15.
In the exhibition sixth flight, Sofia Richmond and Solene Roussel won 21-19, 21-14.
Hannah Marsh and Sylvia Liszewski dropped a 21-17, 22-20 decision at the top flight.
Brynn Smith and Dasha Nikolaeva were on the wrong side of identical scores of 21-18, 21-18 at the No. 2 slot.
Cooper George and Ryann Gallagher fell 21-16, 21-12 as the 3's.
Match 2: Eastern Kentucky 4, Tusculum 1
Aasgard and Doty rounded out a perfect weekend as the freshmen duo were the lone tally for TU against EKU.
The 5's made quick work of the Colonel pairing by scores of 21-14, 21-16.
Smith and Nikolaeva were elevated to the top flight, but were reverse swept: 23-21, 16-21, 8-15.
Marsh and Liszewski shifted to the No. 2 slot, falling by a slight margin: 21-17, 21-19.
George and Gallagher suffered the loss at the 3's by scores of 21-16, 21-13.
At No. 4, Richmond and Vega Barrantes debuted with a three-set battle, notching a 21-15, 21-23, 13-15 result.
In the sixth slot, Roussel and Jordyn Kwalwasser were edged out by scores of 21-18, 22-20.
