CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team competed against a pair of Division I opponents on the first day of the Stache Bash, hosted by Austin Peay.
Tusculum (6-5) rounds out the event on Saturday (Mar. 14) against Wingate (9 a.m.) and Chattanooga (1:30 p.m.).
Match 1: Chattanooga 5, Tusculum 0
The Pioneers were swept for the first time this season, with the Mocs taking a 5-0 victory.
Chattanooga also took the exhibition flight over Cooper George and Solene Roussel by scores of 21-17, 21-12.
The 5's of Jordyn Anderson and Ryann Gallagher were downed 21-13, 22-20.
Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty suffered the first loss of their collegiate careers (10-1) at the hands of the No. 4 flight for the Mocs, but a third set was needed to decide the result: 20-22, 21-16, 15-9.
At the third flight, Sylvia Liszewski and Sofia Richmond lost a 21-6, 21-11 decision.
Brynn Smith and Dasha Nikolaeva were not far behind in their 21-9, 21-13 setback at the No. 2 slot.
The top flight of Hannah Marsh and Sofia Vega Barrantes dropped a 21-12, 21-15 outcome.
Match 2: Austin Peay 3, Tusculum 2
For the second time this season, the Govs downed the Pioneers 3-2.
Doty and Aasgard righted the ship with a 21-18, 21-12 victory at No. 4.
Gallagher and Anderson fell 22-20, 21-13 at No. 5 to tie the match.
The 6's of Jordyn Kwalwasser and Aubrey Justin were unable to finish their contest but had reached a decisive third set.
Smith and Nikolaeva dropped to the No. 3 slot, winning a tight 21-18, 21-19 thriller.
Liszewski and Richmond switched to the 2's and were edged out 21-12, 21-23, 15-8.
The top flight of Marsh and Vega Barrantes were reverse swept in the clincher: 19-21, 21-14, 15-7.
