ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team began competition at the Battle on the Bay on Friday (Mar. 20), hosted by Eckerd College.
Tusculum (6-9) rounds out the Sunshine State event with a pair of Saturday (Mar. 21) matches, facing the hosting Tritons and Florida Southern.
Match 1: Lindenwood 4, Tusculum 1
The Lions won the first-ever meeting against the Pioneers to move to 9-2 on the season.
The lone Pioneer point came at the fifth flight of Jordyn Anderson and Ryann Gallagher. They defeated a familiar face in Tusculum transfer Morgan Willis by scores of 21-15, 21-18.
Hannah Marsh and Sofia Vega Barrantes fell in the top flight by scores of 21-15, 25-23.
At the 2's, Brynn Smith and Dasha Nikolaeva dropped their match by identical 21-13, 21-13 scores.
Sylvia Liszewski and Cooper George suffered a 23-21, 21-11 setback at No. 3.
The No. 4 pairing of Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty fought back to force a third set, but lost 21-12, 17-21, 15-10.
Match 2: Palm Beach Atlantic 5, Tusculum 0
The Sailfish have now won all five meetings over the Pioneers, dating back to 2020.
The 1's were the lone flight to force a decisive third set. Marsh and Vega Barrantes managed a 21-15, 16-21, 17-15 setback.
At No. 2, Smith and Nikolaeva dropped a 21-14, 21-12 decision.
Liszewski and George fell 21-11, 21-9 at the third flight.
Aasgard and Doty stumbled in their match at No. 4 by scores of 21-10, 21-19
At the fifth flight, Anderson and Gallagher lost their first match of the weekend 21-12 21-18.
