Pioneers split with Emmanuel, Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team split its first day of the conference weekend on Friday (Apr. 3), hosted by Erskine.

Tusculum (7-18, 4-4 SACC) finishes out the conference weekend on Saturday (Apr. 4) against Wingate and Catawba.

Match 1: Tusculum 4, Emmanuel 1
The Pioneers finished out the regular season sweep of the Lions in the weekend opener for both teams. TU now holds a 5-1 lead in the series over Emmanuel.

Hannah Marsh and Sofia Vega Barrantes swept the top flight with a 21-13, 21-16 result.

Sylvia Liszewski and Brynn Smith dominated the 2's in a 21-10, 21-12 victory.

The No. 5 flight of Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty picked up the third sweep of the day by scores of 21-15, 21-13.

Jordyn Anderson and Solene Roussel won their first match as a duo with a reverse sweep at No. 4: 18-21, 21-19, 17-15.

The lone loss for the Pioneers came at the No. 3 slot in a three-set battle. Cooper George and Dasha Nikolaeva fought back to force a decisive third set, but fell 16-21, 21-9, 12-15.

Match 2: Erskine 3, Tusculum 2
The Flying Fleet completed the regular season sweep over the Pioneers, including a massive battle at No. 4.

Tusculum's points came at the 2's and 5's. Smith and Liszewski took a 21-13, 21-18 decision, while Doty and Aasgard grabbed a 21-19, 21-14 result.

Marsh and Vega Barrantes fell by identical 21-17, 21-17 scores at the top flight, while Anderson and Roussel moved up to the third slot, dropping a 21-18, 21-12 outcome.

The fourth flight was the lone matchup to need a decisive third set. George and Nikolaeva pushed the contest to the distance with a 16-21, 21-16 comeback, but overtime went to the hosts, 19-17.
