SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tusculum University shortstop Ben Scartz has been named to the 2025 NCAA Division II Preseason All-Southeast Region team as selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Scartz, a graduate student from Tarpon Springs, Florida, earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors in 2024 where he finished second on the club with his .377 batting average. He totaled 69 hits with a team-best 14 doubles and three triples to go along with his 38 RBI.
Scartz led the Southeast Region in "toughest to strikeout" fanning only once in every 22.9 at-bats which was also the fourth-best ratio nationally. He had 20 multiple-hit games including nine with three or more hits. He was also tabbed to the Preseason All-SAC first team at shortstop.
In his 89 games at Tusculum, Scartz has a .370 batting average which includes 129 hits with 25 doubles, four triples, one home run and 72 RBI. The two-time All-SAC honoree completed his undergraduate degree last May where he earned magna cum laude distinction. In 2024, he was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District 3 first team.
Tusculum opens its season this weekend as the Pioneers travel to Francis Marion University for a three-game series with the Patriots. The season opens on Friday with a 4 p.m. contest followed by Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader.
