NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University's Evan Goins has been named the College Baseball Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association.
Goins, a junior third baseman from Knoxville, Tennessee, batted .727 last week in Tusculum's three-game South Atlantic Conference sweep over UVA Wise. Goins went 8-for-11 during the series where he totaled seven RBI.
In the series opener, he homered three times in a 4-for-4 performance where he accounted for six RBI. His three homers are tied for the second most ever in a TU single-game while his six RBI are eighth in program history.
He followed that effort going 4-for-7 with a RBI in Tusculum's 13-11 win over the Highland Cavaliers in 12 innings. He started the final game of the series, but was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, cutting short his weekend.
He was also named the SAC Baseball Player Week and posted a .750 on-base percentage and a 1.545 slugging percentage in his three games.
Tusculum returns to action this weekend when they host 19th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University for a three-game SAC series at Eastman Credit Union Field.
