SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tusculum University third baseman Evan Goins has been named the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Player of the Week as selected by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Goins becomes the first Tusculum player to earn NCBWA Region Player of the Week honors since 2020 and the fourth honoree all-time.
Goins, a junior from Knoxville, Tennessee, batted .727 last week in Tusculum's three-game South Atlantic Conference sweep over UVA Wise. Goins went 8-for-11 during the series where he totaled seven RBI.
In the series opener, he homered three times in a 4-for-4 performance where he accounted for six RBI. His three homers are tied for the second most ever in a TU single-game while his six RBI are eighth in program history.
He followed that effort going 4-for-7 with a RBI in Tusculum's 13-11 win over the Highland Cavaliers in 12 innings. He started the final game of the series, but was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, cutting short his weekend.
He was also named the SAC Baseball Player Week and the Tennessee Sportswriters Association Player of the Week. He posted a .750 on-base percentage and a 1.545 slugging percentage in his three games last week.
In his 40 games this year, he is batting .313 with seven doubles, four home runs and 24 RBI. He leads the Pioneers with his 31 runs scores and is third with 41 hits.
Tusculum returns home this weekend to host 19th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University for a three-game SAC series at Eastman Credit Union Field. The series begins with Friday's 6 p.m. opener, followed by Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader.
