Scott Eul named Tusculum baseball coach

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Scott Eul has been named the new head baseball coach at Tusculum University announced Josh Ealy, TU Vice President for Athletics.

Eul, a native of Rosemount, Minnesota, becomes the 26th head coach in program history, but only the third baseball skipper since the Pioneers became a NCAA Division II member in 1998.

In his 10 years as a NCAA II head coach, his programs have recorded winning seasons in all but one while posting 273 victories to go along with eight conference postseason berths. As a collegiate head coach, 32 of his players earned All-Conference accolades, along with 16 All-Region performers and two All-Americans.

Eul comes to Greeneville after a successful four-year stint at the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he posted 114 victories and mentored 16 All-Conference honorees, seven All-Region standouts and two All-Americans. His clubs also earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award twice while boasting 16 Academic All-District selections.

"We are thrilled to welcome Scott Eul to the Tusculum family and to have him lead our baseball program into a new era," said Ealy. "Scott is a proven program builder at the Division II level and understands what it takes to establish and sustain a winning culture. Throughout his career, he has elevated programs through strong recruiting and talent development. What stood out most during our search was his passion, energy, and love for baseball. He understands and respects the proud tradition of TU baseball and we are confident his leadership, vision, and track record will reposition the program into regional and national relevance."

This past spring, Eul led the Tritons to a 34-22 record while capturing the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship. UMSL finished runner-up in the GLVC regular-season with a sterling 24-8 league mark led by All-American first baseman Mitch Bonczkowski and All-American pitcher Eli Cartwright. Bonczkowski was the GLVC batting champion with his .438 average (11th in NCAA II) and led the conference with 92 hits (16th in NCAA II) and 23 home runs (5th in NCAA II). Cartwright, the GLVC Pitcher of the Year, was the league leader with 101 strikeouts (11th in NCAA II) while his 3.00 ERA was best in the conference and 32nd in NCAA II.

UMSL earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament as the Tritons went 1-2 as they knocked off 30th-ranked Wayne State to open the playoffs, but before being eliminated by eventual Midwest Region Champion Indianapolis.

Eul's pitching staff was one of the best in the nation where the Tritons led the GLVC in shutouts (6 - 9th in NCAA II) and strikeouts per nine innings pitched (9.4 – 6th in NCAA II). His team also recorded 150 stolen bases which were 13th-best in the country, while their 557 hits were fourth in the GLVC and 45th in the nation.

In 2025, he led UMSL to a 29-24 worksheet while qualifying for the conference postseason for a second straight year. That club recorded five wins over teams who qualified for the NCAA Playoffs while his pitching staff ranked fifth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings pitched (9.4).

His 2024 UMSL squad recorded the program's first 30-win campaign in a dozen years as the Tritons qualified for the GLVC postseason for the first time since 2014. UMSL went 30-22 as the pitching staff set a then single-season record with 411 strikeouts and finished in the top-10 in school history in three other statistical categories. The offense also finished in the top-10 in seven categories including 49 home runs, 521 hits, 387 runs and 337 RBI.

In his inaugural campaign at UMSL, he went 21-29, a nine-win improvement from the season before.

"I want to thank President Scott Hummel, Josh Ealy, and everyone at Tusculum who made this opportunity possible," Eul said. "I could not be more excited to be joining the Tusculum University team, and leading this baseball program back to where it belongs. Tusculum baseball has a rich history of success and plenty of support behind it and I know we will have this program back where it belongs in no time. The South Atlantic Conference is a very strong baseball league, and I can promise Tusculum baseball will be a big part of that! I cannot wait to get to Greeneville and get this thing rolling."

Prior to Missouri-St. Louis, Eul spent six winning seasons at Minot State University as he transformed the Beavers into one of the top teams in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. His teams posted a 159-102 record including a sterling 118-57 mark in league play as MSU qualified for the NSIC postseason each year.

In 2022, he led MSU to a 28-23 record including 20-12 in the league and a spot in the NSIC Tournament. The Beavers had seven players earn All-Conference distinction as the season was highlighted by wins over Minnesota State and Augustana who were both NCAA II Tournament qualifiers that season.

The 2021 Beavers finished 24-17 overall and 22-12 in conference while the 2020 season was abbreviated due to COVID as they were 8-6 overall when the campaign was suspended.

In 2019, Eul led the Beavers to a historic season as they rewrote the school record book while going 36-18 and established new marks in stolen base percentage (.896), at-bats, runs scored, triples, RBI, total bases, walks and stolen bases. Additionally, they broke many team records on the pitching mound. These include records for lowest opponent batting average, most strikeouts in a nine-inning game, most wins, most strikeouts, most strikeouts looking, and most runners picked off. Eul led the Beavers to the NSIC Tournament Championship game.

In 2018, Minot State tallied its best season in school history as the Beavers captured their first-ever NSIC Championship. Minot State finished the season with a 29-6 record in conference play to finish at the top the league standings. The team went 34-16 overall as Eul was named the NSIC Coach of the Year and the NCAA II Central Region Coach of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

In his first season at Minot State in 2017, the Beavers qualified for the NSIC for the first time since joining the league. The Beavers tied a school single-season record for wins going 29-22, including 23-17 in NSIC play.

Before coming to Minot State, Eul spent two seasons on the coaching staff at St. Cloud State University where he served as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped the Huskies to a 97-15 record, a pair of NSIC Tournament titles (2015 & 2016), a 2015 NSIC regular-season championship and two trips to the NCAA Tournament. His SCSU pitching staff was nationally ranked in multiple categories including leading the country in shutouts and fewest hits allowed in 2015, along with finishing fourth nationally in team ERA as the Huskies went 54-5 overall including 31-3 in conference action. The 2016 club followed with a 43-10 overall mark.

Eul began his collegiate coaching career at the University of the South. He served two seasons as the pitching coach, recruiting coordinator and strength & conditioning coach at the Sewanee, Tennessee school.

He played his collegiate baseball at the University of North Dakota. He also earned his Bachelor's degree in physical education at UND in 2013 and later received his Master's degree in educational leadership and administration from St. Cloud State.

Eul is married to the former Jordan Britton, who is a native of Church Hill, Tennessee. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Britton and Torii.

A press conference will be held in the near future to formerly introduce Coach Eul to the Tusculum community.
