TUSCULUM MEN, WINGATE WOMEN CAPTURE TC FALL CLASSIC TITLES


GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team posted a school record 563, while the Wingate University women held off a furious final round charge as the Pioneers and Bulldogs won their respective tournaments at the Tusculum Fall Classic. The two golf tournaments were held simultaneously at Link Hills Country Club.

The Tusculum men shot 281-282=563 (-5) over the two-day, 36-hole event as they broke the previous school record posted by the Pioneers at last year's inaugural tournament (566). TC's Chase Carroll and Chris Wynne each finished with 137 as Carroll captured medalist honors on a scorecard playoff. Carroll posted a four-under par 67 on Tuesday, marking the second straight year he has finished first at this event.

Tusculum won by nine shots over second place Lincoln Memorial University (572). Catawba College finished third with 582, followed by Wingate University (585), St. Andrews Presbyterian College (590), Spartanburg Methodist College (592), Mars Hill College (594), Lenoir-Rhyne College (599), Limestone College (610) and Walters State College (622).

LMU's Brad Greenside finished third with 139, including Tuesday's 67 to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. Rounding out the All-Tournament squad are Mars Hill's Nate Lockey (141) and LMU's Cory Bartlett (142).

In the Women's tournament, Wingate edged Lenoir-Rhyne by a single stroke as the Bulldogs shot 641 over the two-day event. Lenoir-Rhyne posted the round of the tournament with 316 on Tuesday to finish with 642. L-R's Megan Ulep carded an even par 72 in the final round to pace the Bears. Ulep and Limestone's Katie Clayton each finished at 150 for the tournament as Clayton won medalist honors on the scorecard playoff. Clayton also fired a final round 72. Joining Clayton and Ulep on the All-Tournament team are Wingate's Ashley Denton, and Catawba's Danielle Freed and Kelsey Babos. Babos tied for fifth place with L-R's Brenna Martens but won the final spot on the All-Tournament squad via a scorecard playoff.

Tusculum finished third with 660, followed by Limestone (666), Spartanburg Methodist (670), Catawba (671), Lincoln Memorial (693), Mars Hill (695) and St. Andrews (727).

Tusculum won the combined championship by a mere three shots with 1223, edging out Wingate (1226). Lenoir-Rhyne finished third (1241) followed by Catawba (1253), Spartanburg Methodist (1262), Lincoln Memorial (1265), Limestone (1276), Mars Hill (1289) and St. Andrews (1317). Tusculum won the combined championship at last year's Classic.
