NORMAN, Okla. --- Tusculum College's Luke
Fullen and Lawson George have been named to the 2009-2010 Cleveland
Golf/Srixon Division II All-America Scholars Team announced
officials Friday.
Fullen and George are two of 55 Division II golfers in the nation
to be recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
To be eligible, an individual must be a junior or senior
academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate
level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds
and have a stroke average under 78.0 and maintain a minimum
cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Honorees must also be of
high moral character and be in good standing at this college or
university.
Fullen, a rising senior from Greeneville, Tenn., led the Pioneers in his first TC campaign with a 75.17 stroke average, which is the eighth lowest in school history. The Walters State College transfer played in all nine tournaments for the Pioneers this past season as he recorded four top 20 finishes, including two in the top 10. His best effort came at the Tusculum Invitational this past March as he finished third posting back-to-back rounds of 69 to shoot a four-under par 138 at Link Hills Country Club. The 138 is the seventh lowest 36-hole tally in Tusculum history. For his efforts, the Greeneville High School graduate was named the TC's most valuable player.
Fullen has a 3.58 GPA, while majoring in Business Administration. He is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
George, a rising senior from Knoxville, Tenn., finished fourth on the team with his 76.43 scoring average. The Halls High School alum played in seven events, where he recorded four top 20 performances, including a 10th place finish at the Richard Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.
George is entering his final Tusculum campaign with a 75.62 career stroke average, which is currently the fifth lowest in school history. He is also fifth all-time in career sub-par rounds (7) and 13th in rounds played (52).
He is majoring in Business with a 3.34 GPA and is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Tusculum's two honorees to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Division II All-American Scholars Team accounts for half of the four players from the South Atlantic Conference named to this prestigious group.
Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of 10 colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
