GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College will
host 20 collegiate men's golf teams at the 18th annual Tusculum
Invitational this weekend at Link Hills Country Club.
The first round begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by
Sunday's final round which is slated to tee off just before 8 a.m.
on the 6,733-yard lay-out.
The Pioneers have won this event four times, including the most recent in 2006. Tusculum has recorded two tournament wins this season capturing team titles at the Anderson Invitational and the Lincoln Memorial Fall Invitational.
This year's tournament field will include South Atlantic Conference members Anderson University, Brevard College, Catawba College, Lincoln Memorial University, Mars Hill College and Wingate University. NCAA Division II teams also competing in this year's tournament include: University of Findlay, Grand Valley State University, King College, Limestone College, University of Montevallo and Tiffin University. Other participants include: Parkland College, Spartanburg Methodist College, USC Lancaster, Tennessee Wesleyan College, Tri-County Technical College, Virginia Intermont College and Walters State College.
Walters State won the inaugural Tusculum Invitational in 1994, while Grand Valley is a two-time winner of the Tusculum Invitational in 2002 and again in 2007. Wingate also won this event in 2001.
Three of the teams in this year's tournament field are ranked in the top 50 in the latest Golfstat Division II head-to-head standings, including No. 35 Lincoln Memorial, No. 45 Tusculum and No. 48 King.
Three of the last five TC Invitational medalists have come from
Tusculum including Nick Kinzer (2006), Darren Christie (2007) and
Chris Wynne (2008). In all, six Pioneers have captured the
individual title at this event.
Admission to the 36-hole tournament is free and open to the
public.
