ETOWAH, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's
golf captured its third team title this spring and fourth overall
for the year as the Pioneers captured the 2015 Etowah Spring
Challenge Saturday at the Etowah Valley Country Club.
The Tusculum carded a team score of 296, four shots better than
runner-up and tournament host Brevard College (300). Catawba
College finished third with 316, while Mars Hill University rounded
out the team scoring with 317.
Tusculum senior Warren Cheney fired an even par round of 72 to finish one stroke in front of junior teammate Brad Hawkins and North Greenville University's Mac Bradley.
TC sophomore Taylor Smith tied for fifth place, while junior Nick Forsberg rounded out the Tusculum scoring with 76 to tie for eighth place.
This year, the Pioneers have won the Walters State Fall Classic, Tusculum Invitational and the Hargett Memorial.
Cheney, who won the 2012 Walters State Fall Invitational, becomes only the ninth player in program history to win multiple individual titles in his career.
Tusculum head coach Bob Dibble records his 35th career men's tournament with Saturday's triumph.
The Pioneers return to action April 19-21 for the South Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be held at Firethorn Country Club in Marvin, North Carolina.
