ETOWAH, N.C. --- Tusculum College senior Nick Forsberg carded a two-under par 70 to capture a share of medalist honors at the 2016 Etowah Spring Challenge. The one-day, 18-hole event was held at the Etowah Valley Golf Club, the site of the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be conducted later this month (Apr. 17-19).
The Pioneers posted a team score of 297 to garner runner-up honors and finishing two shots behind tournament champion and host Brevard College (295). Wingate University finished third with 302, while Coker College posted 308 for fourth place.
Forsberg tied with Brevard's Paul Calac at 70 to earn his second medalist award of his collegiate career.
TC senior Brad Hawkins tied for fifth place with his one-over par round of 73. Of his 10 events this season, Hawkins has recorded top-five finishes in eight of those tournaments.
Junior Chris Hutson shot 76 to tie for 10th place, while junior Taylor Smith fired 78 to tie for 17th. Preston Tucker rounded out the TC scoring with an 83 and 26th place. TC senior Samuel Davis posted an 85 as an individual competitor to finish 27th, while junior Cameron Dugger shot 88 to finish 29th.
The Pioneers return to action in 15 days as they will be defending their league title at the SAC Championship. Forsberg finished in first place at last year's conference championship and is the defending tournament medalist.
