Pioneers receiving votes in USILA Division II poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Tusculum University men's lacrosse team is receiving votes in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Dynamic Division II Coaches Poll, through games of Feb. 20.

The Pioneers (5-0) are off to the best start in program history following wins over Lees-McRae (20-8) and Emmanuel (21-8) last week. Tusculum has received votes in the USILA Division II poll in four of the last six seasons, achieving a high ranking of 19th during the 2017 season.

Tusculum leads the South Atlantic Conference in nearly all offensive categories, including scoring offense (18.6 goals per game), scoring defense (8.00 goals per game) and points per game (31.20). Tusculum leads Division II in total assists (63), total points (156) and shot percentage (41.0 percent).

Individually, senior attack Nate Raymond leads the SAC in points per game (8.00) and is fourth in Division II in goals per game at 5.40. Freshman attack Wesley Phillips is fourth in the SAC and eighth in Division II with 3.00 assists per game, and junior midfielder Jordan Daniel is third in Division II with five man-up goals.

Four SAC schools are inside the USILA Top 20 this week, with Wingate third, Limestone eighth, Lenoir-Rhyne 11th and Queens 13th. Tusculum is among 14 teams receiving votes outside the Top 20, along with SAC rival Newberry.

The Pioneers will host Alabama Huntsville on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their final non-conference match before beginning their 10-game conference slate on Saturday, March 5 against Mars Hill.
