ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University's Nemanja Subanovic has been named the 2024 South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year announced league officials Thursday.
The SAC Scholar Athlete of the year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the conference's championship sports and is selected by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives committee. Winners are selected based on their achievements in academics and athletics.
This marks the eighth time in program history that a TU men's tennis student-athlete has earned SAC Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year honors including: Hunter Beal (2009), Henrique Rodrigues (2010), Luis Zamora (2012), Lukas Winkelmann (2013, 2014, 2015) and Jonas Winkelmann (2016).
Subanovic, a senior from Subotica, Serbia, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.964 while majoring in sport management. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List, President's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He is a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society and the College of Business Honor Society.
On the court, he is a three-time All-SAC selection where he has posted a 47-40 career singles record. He is a four-time ITA Scholar Athlete and was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® third team. He is a three-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award and was twice tabbed to the CSC Academic All-District® first team.
He helped the Pioneers to a 16-7 record including 9-3 in league play to finish fourth in the conference standings and advanced to the SAC quarterfinal round. In his four seasons at Tusculum, the Pioneers have posted a 63-26 overall record including 38-9 in league play. He has been a member of two NCAA Division II Tournament teams including a SAC Tournament title run in 2021.
He has been involved with Tusculum's Nettie Day of Service and served as a clinical student and intern in TU's Athletic Communications department.
