GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Wingate University was a 4-0 winner over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The 11th-ranked Bulldogs (12-1, 8-1 SAC) needed a tiebreaker to take the doubles point, but then collected three straight-set wins in singles to clinch the victory over the Pioneers (7-10, 5-5 SAC), ending Tusculum's three-match winning streak.
In doubles, Carlo Rosellini and Luka Brown beat Will Gee and Rens Verhaar 6-1 at flight one, but the Pioneer duo of Nathan Matsuguma and Angelos Avgeris came back with a 6-2 victory over Petar Basic Palkovic and Rodrigo De la Torre at flight three.
Playing for the point at flight two, it would be the Wingate duo of Gabriel Constantino and Martino Colabella that prevailed with a 7-6 (9-7) win over Miles Ray and Anton Krondell.
In singles, Federico Spinetta downed Kai Poelchau 6-1, 6-0 at flight six and Florian Walchel defeated Verhaar 6-4, 6-0 at flight two. At flight five, De la Torre clinched the match for Wingate with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ray.
The Pioneers will play their final home match of the season on Tuesday, April 8 beginning at 2 p.m. against Emory & Henry.
