SUMTER, S.C. --- Tusculum University senior Will Gee has advanced to the semifinals of men's Flight B after picking up a pair of victories on day two of the ITA Southeast Regional Championship at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Gee beat Diego Vega of Francis Marion 6-4, 6-2 in his round of 16 match on Saturday afternoon, then knocked off Alexander Achour of Middle Georgia State 6-4, 0-6 (10-7) in a tiebreaker to move into the semifinal round. Gee will play Alexandre Frigout of Francis Marion in the semifinals on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., with the finals scheduled for 1:30 Sunday afternoon.
Junior Rens Verhaar advanced to the round of 16 in Flight A after beating Edoardo Pilia of Coker in a weather-delayed match by a score of 6-2, 4-6, (10-8). In the round of 16, Verhaar lost 6-3, 6-2 to Daniel Hammond of Columbus State.
In doubles play, Gee and junior David Negzaoui dropped their Flight B quarterfinal match to Ryosuke Inagawa and Santiago Passoni of Catawba by a score of 8-2.
In women's play, freshman Emma Kotzmannova was the lone Pioneer to compete, dropping a 6-0, 6-3 consolation match to Claudia Vallejos of Wingate.
