HARROGATE, Tenn. --- Belmont Abbey College defeated Tusculum University 4-1 in non-conference men's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial University Indoor Complex.
The Crusaders (8-5) lost the doubles point to the Pioneers (4-1) but won all four completed singles matches to collect the victory.
In doubles, Angus Howard and Reese McCann defeated Isaac Buerkle and Charlie Fremaux 6-3 at flight one, and David Negzaoui teamed with Will Gee for a 6-1 win at flight three over Tim Stemler and Noelle Ampong to give Tusculum a 1-0 lead.
Belmont Abbey would come back with four straight-set victories in singles, starting with a 6-1, 6-3 win by Marcus Bergelin over McCann at flight six. Cameron Simpson defeated Negzaoui 6-2, 6-4 at flight three to put the Crusaders up 2-1, and Buerkle downed Rens Verhaar 6-2, 6-2 at flight two. Fremaux would clinch the win as he beat Will Gee 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at flight four.
The Pioneers will travel to Montreat for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Feb. 24 beginning at 11 a.m.
