BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team picked up a 4-0 victory over Montreat College in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers (5-1) won two doubles matches from the Cavaliers (3-6) and captured three singles contestes in straight sets to improve to 3-0 on the road this season.
In doubles, Angus Howard and Reese McCann defeated Paul Saemann and Joaquin Hernandez 6-2 at flight one, and David Negzaoui teamed with Will Gee for a 6-2 win over Vitor Monteiro and Lucas Descalzi at flight two.
In singles, McCann defeated Saemann 6-3, 6-1 at flight four for a 2-0 Tusculum lead, and Howard followed by beating Fabrizio Moreno 6-3, 6-2 at flight four. Kai Poelchau finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at flight six over Hernandez. Each of the three unfinished matches was in the third set when the Pioneers clinched the win.
The Pioneers will turn around and travel to King for a non-conference match with the Tornado on Wednesday, Feb. 25 beginning at 1 p.m.
