HARROGATE, Tenn. --- Lincoln Memorial University defeated Tusculum University 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis Tuesday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Complex.
The 19th-ranked Railsplitters (8-1, 3-0 SAC) brought the five-match winning streak of the 23rd-ranked Pioneers (9-2, 2-1 SAC) to an end by winning the doubles point in a tiebreaker, then taking the first three singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles, LMU's Victor Bourguignon and Sebastian Aranzeta defeated Angus Howard and Reese McCann 6-3 at flight one, but David Negzaoui and Will Gee of Tusculum downed Mathis Amsellem and Alexandru Giurea 6-3 at flight three. At flight two, Ethan Hirons and Radu Florea beat Rens Verhaar and Kai Poelchau 7-6 (7-5) to put the Railsplitters up 1-0 in the match.
The Railsplitters went up 2-0 in the match as Giurea defeated Romain Payan 6-2, 6-3 at flight two. Kai Miyatake defeated McCann 6-1, 6-0 at flight six for a 3-0 LMU lead, and Bourguignon beat Howard 6-3, 6-3 at flight five to clinch the win for the Railsplitters.
Tusculum will travel to Coker for a SAC match with the Cobras on Saturday, March 14 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Coker Tennis Courts.
