GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University won the final three singles matches to take a 4-2 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The 27th-ranked Pioneers (13-2, 5-1 SAC) have won four straight matches, with three against ranked opponents including Saturday's victory over the 48th-ranked Bears (8-2, 7-1 SAC).
Tusculum won the doubles point as David Negzaoui and Will Gee defeated Elijah Blackshaw and Samuil Sivinov 6=1 at flight three, and Rens Verhaar teamed with Kai Poelchau for a 6-4 victory over Paul Daniel Meyer and Lucas Galy at flight two.
Lenoir-Rhyne went up 2-1 in singles as Vitor Ferreira beat Romain Payan 6-3, 6-4 at flight one and Vadym Rogynskyi defeated Negzaoui 7-5, 6-2 at flight three. Verhaar began the comeback with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Meyer at flight two, and Gee put the Pioneers up 3-2 with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Blackshaw at flight four. Angus Howard clinched the win for the Pioneers as he beat Sivinov 7-5, 7-5 at flight five.
The Pioneers are home to take on Salem in a non-conference match on Monday, March 30 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
