GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team won its season-high sixth straight match on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference action at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 27th-ranked Pioneers (15-2, 6-1 SAC) are off to their best start through 17 matches since opening both the 2015 and 2016 seasons with identical 15-2 records en route to claiming the SAC Championship in both years.

The Lions (7-10, 1-8 SAC) won the doubles point, but lost all four completed singles matches in straight sets to the Pioneers, who dropped only five of 46 games in their four victories.

In doubles, Will Gee teamed with Shuzo Uemura for a 6-4 win over Ishamael Dowuoua and Diell Mehmedi at flight two, but the Lions evened up the score as Riccardo Moretti and Dylan Wilson rallied for a 7-5 win over Angus Howard and Reese McCann at flight one. Mars Hill took the doubles point as Sirac Aslan and Yasen Kehayaminchev defeated Sarthak Sharma and Andrei Negoita 6-4 at flight three.

Tusculum needed less than an hour to finish off singles, starting with a 6-1, 6-0 win by Kai Poelchau over Mehmedi at flight six. Howard beat Dowuoua 6-0, 6-1 at flight five for a 2-1 Tusculum lead, and Rens Verhaar grabbed a victory at flight two after Wilson retired at 6-0, 5-0. Gee closed out the win for the Pioneers with a 6-1, 6-2 win at flight two over Kehayaminchev.

The Pioneers will turn around and host Carson-Newman on Thursday, April 2 beginning at noon at the Nichols Tennis Complex, in a makeup of a match originally scheduled for March 18. The Eagles are 4-12 overall and 2-5 in conference play, and are coming off a 6-1 non-conference loss to Lee on Tuesday.
