GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University stretched its winning streak to seven matches with a 4-1 victory over Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis Thursday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The 27th-ranked Pioneers (16-2, 7-1 SAC) won the doubles point and took three straight-set wins from the Eagles (4-13, 2-6 SAC) to move into a three-way tie for second place in the conference with Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate with three matches left in the regular season.
In doubles play, David Negzaoui and Will Gee rallied for a 6-4 win over Wade Donovan and Giancarlo Rosario at flight three, and Angus Howard teamed with Reese McCann for a 6-4 victory at flight one over Yassin Ali and Leonard Baecker.
Tusculum went up 3-0 in the match as Howard beat Donovan 6-0, 6-3 at flight five and McCann defeated Rosario 6-2, 6-2 at flight six. Carson-Newman picked up its lone point at flight four as Baecker defeated Gee 6-1, 6-3, but Rens Verhaar finished off the win as he beat Max Stollecker 6-4, 6-3 at flight two.
The Pioneers will take on 22nd-ranked Wingate on the road Saturday at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs lost to 12th-ranked Catawba 4-2 on Thursday to drop to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in the SAC.
