GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball team brings in the Emmanuel (Ga.) College Lions for a Wednesday (Mar. 10) event, starting at 6 p.m.
RECAPPING THE WEEK
Tusculum (1-7) hosted a tri-match on Friday (Mar. 5), featuring Bluefield College and Erskine. The Pioneers swept the Rams, but were swept by the Flying Fleet.
Shaun Kampshoff led the way with 23 kills, followed by Hunter Walck (13), Shaphar Grant (11), and Caleb Slater (10). The latter pair hit .476 and .333 on the day, respectively. Lucas Blanco registered 50 assists, while Reese DeElena, in his collegiate debut, handed out six. Kampshoff also topped the service ace column with four and Dane Loup was just behind with a trio. Taylor Phillips recorded eight digs and was ahead of Kampshoff (7) and Blanco (6). Slater (4), Grant (3), Kampshoff (3), Blanco (2), and Walck (1) were the only Pioneers to be credited with a block.
In the national rankings, Tusculum is 14th in the NCAA in aces per set (1.43).
Individually, Kampshoff is ranked in the top-25 across four statistical categories: aces per set (6th; .591), attacks per set (9th; 9.09), kills per set (23rd; 3.64), and points per set (23rd; 4.41). Slater is 18th nationally, averaging .962 blocks per set, while Grant is 20th in hitting percentage (.356). Blanco is averaging 8.33 assists per set, 26th across the country.
LOOKING AHEAD
Emmanuel (3-8) is making a Tennessee road trip, stopping at Lincoln Memorial tonight before coming to Greeneville for Wednesday's contest against Tusculum. Aleksa Lakic is averaging nearly four kills per set (3.91) for a total of 172 thus far. Just behind is Don Thompson's 139 kills at a 3.16 per set rate. He is also firing at an efficient .322 hitting percentage. Henrik Westhoff has dished out 437 assists at torrid 9.93 per frame average, good for eighth nationally. Lakic (12), Thompson (10), and Carlos Guerrero (10) head up the ace category. Defensively, Nicklas Eichenberger has 90 digs, while Westhoff follows with 83. Thompson is credited with 35 total blocks (10 solo, 25 assists).
