BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team fell to Lees-McRae on Friday (Mar. 6) night, despite Morgan Makovec's historic performance.
The Pioneers (7-6) dropped its third-straight contest, while the Bobcats (8-8) win their fourth match in a row by scores of 25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25.
Ben Fincham had a stellar night with 19 kills on a .533 hitting percentage. Abdirahman Ahmed dished out 40 assists, as Fincham landed five service aces. Ben Ratliff-Becher scooped up a team-best nine eight digs, while Evan Harris assisted in five blocks.
Morgan Makovec had a record night, shattering the program's single-match hitting percentage. The junior went 16-for-20 with no errors to fire on an .800 clip. Adam Svendsen (9), Reef Mathis (6), Ian Johnson (5), Caleb Hammann (4), and Greyson Ervin (3) rounded out the offense. Riley Wisniakowski distributed 35 assists, while Mathis and Hammann added the aces. The setter also finished with a team-high five digs. At the net, a trio of Pioneers were credited with four total blocks: Makovec, Svendsen, and Hammann.
Lees-McRae hit .351 as a team with 48 kills and 15 errors on 94 total attempts. Tusculum hit .258 with 43 kills, 19 errors, and 93 total attacks. The Bobcats led the match in assists (46-39), service aces (11-2), and digs (27-22), while the Pioneers were credited with more total blocks (8.5-7).
Tusculum returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 7) at Erskine for a 6 p.m. match.
