Makovec earns IVA Offensive Player of the Week honors

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --- Morgan Makovec of Tusculum University men's volleyball earned Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (IVA) Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time in his career and fourth overall weekly laurel from the IVA.

Makovec (Virginia Beach, Va.) had a record week for the Pioneers. The junior middle blocker began with 12 kills on a .409 hitting percentage with one service ace, four digs, and three total blocks against Lincoln Memorial, who was receiving votes in the national poll. At Lees-McRae, Makovec shattered the program's hitting percentage mark (.800) with a career-high 16 kills. He added a dig, an assist, and four block assists. Makovec followed with seven kills on a .667 clip with two assists, two aces, four digs, and five total blocks. On the week, Makovec averaged 2.92 kills on a .608 clip, .25 aces, .75 digs, and 1.00 blocks per set.

For the season, Makovec is averaging 2.17 kills on a .465 hitting percentage, .33 service aces, .38 digs, 1.04 blocks, and 3.1 points across 48 sets.

Nationally, Makovec is third in hitting percentage (.465) and 18th in blocks per set (1.042).

As a team, the Pioneers lead the nation in blocks per set (2.945), third in opponent hitting percentage (.156), and 23rd in win-loss percentage (.600).

Tusculum (9-6) travels to Ashland, Virginia for a tri-match featuring Randolph and Randolph-Macon on Saturday (Mar. 14).
