GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Charleston on Saturday (Mar. 21) night in Pioneer Arena.
The Pioneers (11-8) were swept by the Golden Eagles (12-9) by scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-21. This was the first time TU has been blanked since the season opener at Queens on January 10.
UC was led by nine kills from Samuel Alo on an .800 hitting percentage. Yotam Briger dished out 21 assists and was one of four Golden Eagles to land a pair of services, joined by Braxton Francis, Max Nissen, and Conrad Spidsø. Both Briger and the libero Mikolaj Daszkiewicz recorded four digs. At the net, Pavlin Ivanov was credited with four block assists.
Aiden Roper led TU with nine kills, followed by Adam Svendsen (4), Reef Mathis (2), Morgan Makovec (2), Riley Wisniakowski (2), and Caleb Hammann (1). Wisniakowski distributed 14 assists, while Roper led with two aces. Four Pioneers were credited with a pair of digs: Roper, Svendsen, Makovec, and Wisniakowski. Hammann took part in both Tusculum blocks, with a solo rejection and an assist with Mathis.
Charleston hit .403 as a team with 35 kills and 10 errors on 62 total attempts. Tusculum hit .030 with 20 kills, 18 errors, and 67 total attacks. The Golden Eagles led the Pioneers in assists (32-19), service aces (10-5), digs (19-12), and total blocks (6-2). It was a season-low in hitting percentage, kills, assists, digs, and blocks for TU.
Tusculum makes its first-ever trip to Newberry (5-11, 0-1 IVA) on Tuesday (Mar. 24) for a 6 p.m. match.
