Tusculum ends season in IVA semifinals

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --- The fourth-seeded Tusculum men's volleyball team had its season ended by top-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (IVA) semifinals on Friday (Apr. 17).

The Railsplitters (16-6) rallied to down the Pioneers (15-10) by scores of 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-10.

Johan Negron went off for 25 kills on a .465 hitting percentage to power LMU to the title match for the eighth-straight season. Inbar Shachar dished out 50 assists, while George Stevens landed a pair of service aces. Shachar and Axel Van Baars reached double figures in digs with 13 and 10, respectively. At the net, Oisin Walsh and Relja Milosavljevic were credited with four block assists apiece.

Donovan Nye landed a career-high 17 kills, while Morgan Makovec added 15 on a .462 clip. Aiden Roper also contributed 15 kills, followed by Riley Wisniakowski (4), Ian Johnson (3), Reef Mathis (1), and Caleb Hammann (1). Wisniakowski distributed 47 assists and was one of three Pioneers to record an ace, joined by Makovec and Roper. Defensively, Johnson was one dig shy of his career-best with nine, as Makovec had a hand in five blocks (one solo, four assists).

Lincoln Memorial hit .281 as a team with 60 kills and 22 errors on 135 total attempts. Tusculum hit .271 with 56 kills, 20 errors, and 133 total attacks. The Railsplitters tallied more assists (57-54) and digs (48-45), while the Pioneers recorded more total blocks (11-8). The teams tied with three service aces each.
