Pioneers felled by Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. --- Tusculum University softball fell to the Anderson University Trojans on Saturday (Mar. 14) afternoon.

Tusculum (10-12, 1-3 SAC) steps out of conference play with a trip to nearby King on Wednesday (Mar. 18) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Game 1: Anderson 9, Tusculum 1 (5 innings)
The Trojans scored nine unanswered runs to run-rule the Pioneers in the first game of the day.

Tusculum's lone run came in the first inning. Izzy Wilson was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on an Abby Hunter single through the right side. Wilson was thrown out on a fielder's choice to home, but an Ellie Alvarez walk loaded the bases with one out. Taylor Hancock's fielder's choice to third allowed Hunter to score.

Anderson broke through in the second with a RBI double and a bases-loaded walk to tally its runs.

The Trojans added four more in the fourth to lead 6-1. With the bases loaded, a double brought in the three runners and later scored on a throwing error.

AU's final three blows came in the bottom of the fifth to enact the run-rule. Consecutive one-out hits scored a runner and three-straight walks brought in a second run. With the bases still loaded and two outs, a Trojan drove in the final tally with a hit.

Chelsey Stonesifer (8-4) went 3.1 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on three hits, seven walks, and five strikeouts. Dani Beckham tossed an inning with two runs on two hits with a walk. Natalie Spaitis got one out but allowed the final run on one hit after three walks.

Game 2: Anderson 4, Tusculum 1
AU used eight hits to round out the series sweep of TU.

Once again, Tusculum's only run came in the first inning. Wilson was hit by a pitch and was bunted over by Ella Majchrzak. She scored on Alvarez's single back up the middle.

Anderson's first run came in the second on a double-steal.

The Trojans loaded the bases with one out in the third, but back-to-back swinging strikeouts by Aleyia Satterfield kept the game tied.

AU pulled ahead with two runs in the fourth on three-straight hits and its final tally in the fifth on a RBI double.

Satterfield (2-5) tossed her first complete game, allowing four runs on eight hits with four walks and five strikeouts, which tied her career-high.
