NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Tusculum University men's indoor track & field team is ranked 24th in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Rating Index for the week ending Feb. 27.
The Pioneers are ranked for the third consecutive week inside the top 25, dropping one position from last week with 33.82 points. Tusculum continues to be the second-highest ranked men's program in both the South Atlantic Conference and the Southeast Region, trailing 19th-ranked Queens which has 45.81 points.
Senior Widchard Guervil has accumulated 32.41 of the Pioneers' score, as he ranks third in Division II in the 60 meters at 6.69 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters at 21.13 seconds. Junior Zackary Nelson is ranked 15th in Division II in the 400 meters with a converted time of 47.73 seconds from last weekend's SAC Championship, earning him 1.41 points in the rating index.
Tusculum has climbed to fifth in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings in the men's 60 meters, while falling from seventh to 11th in the 200 meters. The Event Squad rankings rate teams based on the cumulative season-best marks for a school's top four athletes in an event. The Pioneers have a team average of 6.84 seconds in the 60 meters and 21.80 seconds in the 200 meters.
Pittsburg State remains first in Division II in the men's indoor ratings, followed by Grand Valley State and West Texas A&M. Colorado School of Mines is down one spot to fourth, with Adams State up five spots to fifth in this week's ratings.
Guervil and Nelson will represent Tusculum in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at Pittsburg State on March 11-12, with Guervil running in the 60 and 200 and Nelson participating in the 400.
