ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University senior jumper Joshua Stephens has been named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 20, the SAC office announced Tuesday.
Stephens broke the oldest record in program history at the Aggie Invitational on Saturday, posting a mark of 15.20 meters (49 feet, 10 1/2 inches) in the triple jump to place fourth in the event. It is the second time this season that Stephens has earned conference honors, after receiving the Field Athlete of the Week award in December during the indoor season.
His jump broke the program record of 15.15 meters (49 feet, 8 1/2 inches) set by Yannick Rosalie at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on May 2, 2018. Rosalie's record stood for nearly seven years, even as the Pioneers had three SAC medal-winning performances and an NCAA qualifier in the triple jump over that span.
The Sanford, Florida native is currently ranked 19th in Division II, second in the Southeast Region and first in the conference in the triple jump. Stephens won gold in the triple jump at the SAC Indoor Championship in March and was an NCAA qualifier in the event.
Stephens and his teammates will compete at the SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship which will be held Wednesday, April 30 and Thursday, May 1 at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina.
