Hart, Castlin shine at Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. --- A group of Tusculum University indoor track and field athletes competed at the Hokie Invitational Friday night at the Rector Field House.

Senior Jahzara Hart won the women's 60 meters for the second straight weekend with sophomore teammate Qitarah Castlin in second place. Junior Lansford Cunningham took second place in the men's long jump for the Pioneers and broke his own school record with a mark of 7.42 meters.

The Pioneers will be back on the track at the Lenny Lyles Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 30-31 in Louisville, Kentucky.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Hart was the top qualifier in the 60 meters at 7.45 seconds, with Castlin third at 7.53 seconds and senior Shanice Cox in seventh at 7.62 seconds. In the finals, Hart ran 7.40 seconds to earn the win with the second-fastest time of her Tusculum career, with Castlin in second place with a PR of 7.51 seconds. Cox took fourth in 7.61 seconds.

In the 60 hurdles, sophomore Kori Moore qualified third for finals with a time of 8.60 in preliminaries, and nearly duplicated her result in the finals as she was third in 8.61 seconds.

MEN'S RECAP
In the long jump, Cunningham was the top seed through preliminaries with a best mark of 7.32 meters (24 feet, 1/4 inch) set on each of his first two attempts. In the finals, Cunningham dropped into second place but came through with a jump of 7.42 meters (24 feet, 4 1/4 inches) on his final attempt to break his own school record of 7.35 meters set on Jan. 10 at the Tryon International Collegiate Opener.

Freshman Ivan Garcia Rubio placed sixth in the finals of the 60 hurdles in 8.30 seconds, after nearly breaking his own school record in preliminaries with a time of 8.23 seconds that qualified him fifth for finals.
