Pioneers open outdoor season at Blue Bear Invite

SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum University track and field teams opened their outdoor schedule on Saturday by competing at the Blue Bear Invite, hosted by Livingstone College.

The Tusculum men had four individual wins with three for the women, including sweeps of both the 100 meters and 3000 meters. The Pioneers also had three runner-up finishes and four third-place finishes at the meet.

The Pioneers will travel to Anderson, South Carolina for the Electric City Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 3-4.

MEN'S RESULTS
Sophomore Tinotenda Musariri won the 100 meters with a time of 10.64 seconds, while freshman Albert Ziegler took first in the 1500 meters at 4:08.59 and freshman Casen Davis won the 3000 meters at 9:20.62.

In the 110 hurdles, freshman Ivan Garcia Rubio turned in the second-best time in program history and finished fourth overall at 14.85 seconds. Junior Nour Nabi was third in the 400 hurdles at 57.70 seconds, and freshman Lamarkus Dunn took third in the 400 meters at 49.08 seconds.

In the 4x100 relay, the team of junior Kayvon Pickett, junior Lansford Cunningham, junior Chazz Alexander and Musariri took second place at 41.53 seconds. In the 4x400, Alexander, Cunningham, freshman Tomas Ribeiro and Dunn ran 3:!7.09 to take second overall.

Junior Noah Girard won the javelin throw with a mark of 53.34 meters (175 feet, 3 inches), the second-best performance in program history and just under three feet shy of his own school record.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Senior Jahzara Hart picked up where she left off indoors by winning the 100 meters at 11.43 seconds, the seventh-fastest time in program history. Sophomore Qitarah Castlin was second at 11.64 seconds, followed by sophomore Kori Moore in third at 11.81 seconds and junior Kialia Claiborne in fifth at 12.26 seconds.

Claiborne set the program record in the 400 hurdles, running 1:01.09 to take second overall while breaking the mark of 1:03.37 set by Kenisha Stubbs at the 2021 SAC Championship.

Senior Jesica Mbhamali won the 3000 meters with a time of 11:08.28 and took third in the 800 meters at 2:23.92. Freshman Hannah McLain was third in the 3000 at 11:30.20 and freshman Ruby Groves placed fifth at 12:07.18. McLain added a second-place finish in the 1500 meters at 4:58.02.

The 4x100 relay of Castlin, senior Shanice Cox, Moore and Hart was victorious with a time of 44.99 seconds, less than a second off the school record set at last year's NCAA Championship. The 4x400 relay of Claiborne, Castlin, Cox and Moore was second at 3:56.00.

In field events, junior Kieley Smith won the long jump at 5.37 meters (17 feet, 7 1/2 inches), with sophomore Agustina Dittrich placing fourth in the javelin at 27.88 meters (91 feet, 5 inches). Freshman Shamyra Reid was sixth in the discus at 34.81 meters (114 feet, 2 inches) and seventh in the shot put at 11.10 meters (36 feet, 5 inches).
