Pioneers tune up for conference meet at Catamount Classic

CULLOWHEE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in their final regular-season event on Friday at the Catamount Classic on the campus of Western Carolina University.

Sophomore Tinotenda Musariri won the men's 200 meters and sophomore Kori Moore took the victory in the women's 100 meters for the Pioneers, while junior Lansford Cunningham broke his own school record in the men's long jump.

Tusculum will now prepare for the South Atlantic Conference Championship on Wednesday-Thursday, April 29-30 at Emory & Henry University.

MEN'S RECAP
Musariri ran 21.48 seconds in the 200 meters to take first place in the event, with junior Marshae McDonald in 11th at 22.19 seconds. McDonald was also 11th in the 400 meters at 50.79 seconds.

Cunningham jumped 7.33 meters (24 feet, 3/4 inch) in the long jump to break his own school record of 7.28 meters set at the Tennessee Invite on April 11. Freshman Tomas Figueiras was seventh at 6.75 meters (22 feet, 1 3/4 inches) to move into fourth place on the program performance list.

In the hurdles, grad student Jamal Cash was ninth in the 110 hurdles at 15.53 seconds and junior Nour Nabi was 10th at 15.65 seconds. Figueiras ran 54.90 in the 400 hurdles for sixth place and the 10th-fastest time in program history.

Freshman Ivan Garcia Rubio was 12th in the 100 meters at 11.27 seconds, with freshman Cedric Stewart II in 16th at 11.40 seconds and junior Kayvon Pickett in 17th at 11.42 seconds.

In the 5000 meters, freshman Casen Davis was 12th overall at 16:20.99 and followed by freshman Coen Morgan in 13th at 16:21.87. Sophomore Levi Carson finished 16th in the 800 meters at 2:01.13.

In other field events, junior Noah Girard placed eighth in the javelin at 51.22 meters (168 feet, 0 inches), with Stewart taking ninth in the high jump at 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8 3/4 inches). Sophomore Justin Williams was 13th in the discus at 32.03 meters (105 feet, 1 inch).

WOMEN'S RECAP
Moore ran a career-best 11.73 seconds to take first place in the 100 meters, with senior Shanice Cox in third place at 11.82 seconds and junior Alonda Shelton in 10th place at 12.35 seconds. Shelton took eighth in the 200 meters at 25.13 seconds, with junior Kialia Claiborne placing fourth in the 100 hurdles with a season-best time of 14.33 seconds.

In other events, freshman Tristen Douthat was 32nd in the 800 meters at 2:33.78 and freshman Abby Counter took 35th place at 2:36.97. Freshman Ruby Groves was 31st in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:36.81, followed by freshman Skyler Shinn in 32nd place at 5:40.30. Sophomore Agustina Dittrich was 20th in the long jump at 4.89 meters (16 feet, 1/2 inch).
