Pioneers prepare for NCAAs at Lee Last Chance Meet

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- Members of the Tusculum University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in their final regular-season event on Saturday at the Lee Last Chance Meet.

The Pioneer women had first-place finishes in all three events in which they competed, with senior Shanice Cox winning the 100 meters, sophomore Qitarah Castlin taking the 200 meters and sophomore Kori Moore earning the victory in the 100 hurdles.

Tusculum will await the list of qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship when it is revealed on Tuesday, May 12. The Championship meet will be held May 21-23 at Emporia, Kansas.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Castlin solidified her position on the NCAA performance list in the 200 meters by winning the event with a school-record time of 23.26 seconds, breaking the mark of 23.31 seconds set by Jahzara Hart at the 2025 NCAA Championship. Moore recorded her third individual and fifth overall NCAA qualifying time of the season by running 23.35 seconds to take second place.

Cox was fifth in the prelims of the 100 meters at 11.81 seconds, then ran 11.48 seconds in the finals to earn the victory and set a meet record in the event. Moore posted a winning time of 13.72 seconds in the 100 hurdles with junior Kialia Claiborne in fifth at 15.15 seconds.

MEN'S RECAP
All six of Tusculum's entries finished in the top eight of their events, with the 4x400 relay of freshman Lamarkus Dunn, sophomore Tinotenda Musariri, freshman Tomas Figueiras and junior Chazz Alexander taking second place at 3:10.73.

Individually, Musariri was third in the 100 meters at 10.45 seconds, freshman Ivan Garcia Rubio took fifth in the 110 hurdles at 14.64 seconds, Alexander was eighth in the 400 meters at 47.89 seconds and Figueiras finished seventh in the 400 hurdles at 55.52 seconds.

In the long jump, junior Lansford Cunningham finished third with a top mark of 6.95 meters (22 feet, 9 3/4 inches).
