Tusculum College is represented in this week's NCAA Division II
Women's Basketball statistics report, through games of Sunday,
March 6. Senior guard Jasmine Gunn is ranked 23rd in scoring
average at 18.7 points per game, and senior center Catherine Hintz
ranks 21st in field-goal percentage at 55.0 percent.
Gunn leads the South Atlantic Conference and ranks fourth among all
players from the Southeast Region in scoring. She scored a
game-high 25 points to lead the Pioneers to a 77-66 victory over
Wingate in the Food Lion SAC Tournament championship game on
Sunday. She ranks second in program history and fourth in SAC
history with 2,160 points.
Hintz entered the rankings this week by reaching the statistical
minimum of five made field goals per game, having connected on 132
shots in 26 games (5.08 per game). She ranks second in the SAC in
field-goal percentage, and has shot 60 percent or better from the
field 12 times. Her career average of 55.4 percent (324-for-585) is
the second-best percentage in program history and would rank in the
top 10 all-time in the SAC.
As a team, the Pioneers rank 28th in Division II in rebound margin,
with an average of plus-6.0 rebounds per game over the opposition.
Tusculum is averaging 40.2 rebounds per game compared to 34.2
rebounds per game by its opponents. The Pioneers also rank 50th in
winning percentage at .724 (21-8 record) and 63rd in both scoring
defense (59.8 points per game) and fewest turnovers per game (16.4
per game).
The Pioneers won their second consecutive SAC Tournament
championship and are the sixth seed in the NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional, where they will open play on Friday at 1 p.m.
against third-seeded USC Aiken at Clayton State University in
Morrow, Ga.
