GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University women's basketball will honor the memory of former Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt when the Pioneers host "We Back Pat" on Saturday, January 17 against Lenoir-Rhyne University, beginning at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Arena.
The "We Back Pat" game is sponsored by Ballad Health/Greeneville Community Hospital and recognizes the legacy of Pat Summitt, who passed away in 2016 following a five-year battle against Alzheimer's Disease.
Pat and her son, Tyler, founded the Pat Summitt Foundation in 2011 with the hope that one day, no family has to hear that a loved one has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The Foundation focuses on advancing research for treatment and a cure, providing care and support for patients and caregivers, and educating the public about Alzheimer's disease.
The "We Back Pat" cause is particularly close to the Tusculum women's basketball program as starting guard Abbi Douglas is the great-niece of Pat Summitt through her mother, Tracy. Douglas is a two-year starter at guard for the Pioneers and is the team's leading scorer this season at 10.9 points per game.
